From Heritage of the Hills, pp. 347-8: "John J. Cooper was born Nov. 4, 1871, and came to Indian Territory in 1890 with his wife and one child, Robert. His wife Alberta Durbin Cooper settled with him in the Butler community on Honey Creek first. While there, their son Robert was burned to death in a wagon fire. Next they moved near Olympus where Bee, Johnnie, Nevin "Nub," Ethel, Lark, Allene, and Jimmy were born. Ethel played with Thelma Muskrat, daughter of James Muskrat, when they were small girls. Next the family moved to the Carr neighborhood, farming for a living. They sold this farm to Jess Roberts and moved with their large family into the Dodge community where they remained. There Keith was born. Keith was named for Keith Smith.
John J. Cooper was a farmer-stockman of note. He would buy animals in the hills and take them to the prairie where he built feed lots and would fatten out his purchases. His children listened at night for the hoof beats of their father's horse bringing him home for a warm welcome.
Once while living in the Butler district, Mrs. Alberta Cooper told a story to the children born later that her baby was sick and cried so much that an old Indian medicine man named Henry Scraper came late one evening, bringing a cow giving milk. He finally made Mr. and Mrs. Cooper understand he wanted them to give their crying baby some milk from the cow whose calf was the same age as their baby. They did so, and the colicky baby slept peacefully that night. They told the story far and near of the wisdom of the medicine man who cured their baby.
Mrs. Cooper died in 1918 in the flu epidemic. Later John J. Cooper married Carrie Loeffler. He died September 17, 1953. All of them are buried in the Union Cemetery, Stella, Missouri."

Individual Note: After the death of Att Durbin, his widow Patience was married second to William C. Brents. It is not known if they had any children but Marion C. Brents, son by his last marriage to Mary Martin, had half-sisters, but could have been from another marriage of his father. [From Durbin-Logsdon Genealogy, p. 63]

Individual Note: From Bill Mouck (Aug. 2000):
Mary, born 1844 in Ohio, married Thomas Finley, Sr. and became the mother of John and Thomas Finley, Jr. Mary was a sister of Lou Nevans, wife of Samuel Durbin. Therefore, Thomas Finley, Jr. was a cousin of my mother, Annie Mouck. He was also the father of Lee Finley, who married Tom Mouck half-sister Georgia. After the death of Thomas Finley, Sr. who was murdered December 25, 1865, Mary Finley married Ab Johnson. Ab and Mary had a son named Charlie who became the father of Henry Johnson, Ralph Johnson, and I'm sure others. Ralph was our blacksmith around Pineville for several years. Some of Ralph's offspring still live around Pineville.
It is of interest that Evaline Johnson, a daughter of Ab Johnson by a former wife, became the wife of Leonard Durbin, a brother of Samuel Durbin, my Grandfather.
