Individual Note:
     In 1640, Richard Tew and his wife, Mary Clarke, came to New England, his daughter, Seaborn receiving her name because she was born on the voyage over. In subsequent years he became a Quaker, and had recorded upon the Friends' Records his children's births. He held several positions in the colonial government and named in the 1663 Royal Charter granted Rhode Island by Charles II. A tradition of the family relates that he died in London, in 1673, where he had gone to look after some property.

Individual Note:
     Thomas Hopkins married Mary Smith and settled upon the homestead belonging to his father, in the northerly part of the township of Providence. On this estate they reared their family of eight sons and four daughters -- the youngest of all being Anne, who married Nicholas Harris, of Providence. Thomas Hopkins made his will April 5, 1671, distributing in an equitable manner, his possessions among his children, and providing for the support of his widow. {Gen. of Harris]
