     Elinore Ione Sikes (aka "Ella"), daughter of George Drury and Emma Elizabeth (Kelly) Sikes, married Frank Collins, who was 25 in 1913. Their marriage record is included in the appendix of this document. She and her husband assumed custody of Olen Gene Kelly, son of Harry Floyd and Sadie Virginia (Hardin Joseph) Kelly upon their deaths in 1936 in Baxter Springs, Kansas. Ella Collins was killed in an automobile accident on March 9, 1947 ten miles north of Pittsburg, Kansas. A newspaper report from that time states in part:

"Mrs. Ella Collins, 50, or Kansas City, formerly of Baxter Springs, died at about 4:00 o'clock this morning in Mount Carmel hospital, Pittsburg, of injuries received in a car accident three miles north of Arma Sunday afternoon. Her husband, Frank Collins, was seriously injured, and is a patient in the hospital. Their son, Gene Kelly, was asleep in the back seat of the car, and suffered minor injuries, but was not hospitalized."

Ella is buried in the Lowell Cemetery, Cherokee County, Kansas. Frank Collins was last known to be living in Kansas City, Missouri when his daughter, Nelda, died in 1959. [From Eric Andersen][Kelly History.FTW]

Elinore Ione Sikes (aka "Ella"), daughter of George Drury and Emma Elizabeth (Kelly) Sikes, appears on the 1910 Federal Census in Baxter Springs, Cherokee County, Kansas (enumeration district 13, ward 3, page 19A), living with her parents. That census shows 13 year-old "Ella" was born in Oklahoma.

She married Frank Collins, who was 25 in 1913, son of Frank and Mattie Collins. She appears on the 1920 Federal Census in Baxter Springs, Cherokee County, Kansas, with Frank Collins and their daughter, Nelda. Ella was 23 at the time of that census, and indicated that her mother was born in Arkansas.

Thirty three year-old Ella appears on the 1930 Federal Census in Kansas City, Jackson County, Missouri. That census shows her as Ella Collins and that she was born in Oklahoma. She reported that she was 17 when she married and that her father was born in Missouri and her mother was born in Arkansas.

Ella and her husband assumed custody of Olen Gene Kelly, son of Harry Floyd and Sadie Virginia (Hardin Joseph) Kelly upon their deaths in 1936 in Baxter Springs, Kansas.      Bertha Opal Sikes, daughter of George Drury and Emma Elizabeth (Kelly) Sikes, married Marion Confer, son of Cuyler Marion and Rowena Ann (Mills) Confer. They moved to California in 1963.

Bertha Opal Sikes (AKA "Bill"), daughter of George Drury and Emma Elizabeth (Kelly) Sikes, appears on the 1910 Federal Census in Baxter Springs, Cherokee County, Kansas (enumeration district 13, ward 3, page 19A), living with her parents. That census shows seven year-old Bertha was born in Kansas.

She appears on the 1920 Federal Census in Baxter Springs, Cherokee County, Kansas (enumeration district 14). That census shows she was 17 at the time the census was taken and living with her parents on 14th Street.

Bertha married Marion Confer, son of Cuyler Marion and Rowena Ann (Mills) Confer. They appear together on the 1930 Federal Census in Baxter Springs, Cherokee County, Kansas (enumeration district 3). That cenus shows Bertha was 27 years old and born in Kansas.

She attended Pittsburg State Teachers college.
   
They moved to California in 1963.

     Nelda Elizabeth Collins, daughter of Frank and Elinore Ione (Sikes) Collins, was born in Baxter Springs, Kansas. When she was five years old, she moved with her family to Kansas City, Missouri. She was first married to a man named Barnes. Her second marriage was to Major Robert B. Sheppard. She lived for awhile in Washington D.C.. Nelda Elizabeth Collins, daughter of Frank and Elinore Ione (Sikes) Collins, was born in Baxter Springs, Cherokee County, Kansas. She appears on the 1920 Federal Census in Baxter Springs, Cherokee County, Kansas with her parents. That census shows she was five years old in 1920.

When Nelda was five years old, she moved with her family to Kansas City, Jackson County, Missouri. She appears there on the 1930 Federal Census. That census shows 15 year-old Nelda was born in Kansas, and that her father was born in Missouri and her mother was born in Arkansas.

She was first married to a man named Barnes. Her second marriage was to Major Robert B. Sheppard. She lived for awhile in Washington D.C.. Her obituary appeared in the July 13, 1959 edition of the Baxter Springs Citizen. She had no children. She is buried in Lowell, Cherokee County, Kansas.

     Cuyler George Confer (aka "George"), the eldest child of Marion and Bertha (Sikes) Confer, was a high school and college star athlete in football and basketball. He married Pauline Sholz. George Confer served in the Marines during World War II, first on Midway Island then Iwo Jima. He was with the first U. S. Troops to occupy Japan. He attended Tulsa University, obtaining a degree in Petroleum Engineering, and later went to work for Sinclair Oil, which merged with Atlantic Ridgefield. He died during open heart surgery, following a heart attack five years earlier.

Sharyn Elizabeth Parkinson, the only child of Clyde and Shirley (Confer) Parkinson, Jr., married Robert Michael Hinch, son of Edward Hinch, in Las Vegas, Nevada.

She suffered from lung cancer and had the cancer surgically removed along with a large portion of one lung, the rest of which was heavily involved in emphasema. The cancer eventually spread and she had the same type of cancer removed from her brain.

Herman Garcia, son of Herminio and Esther (Rodriguez) Garcia, graduated high school in El Paso, Texas. He servied in the United States Army during World War II and during the Korean War. He retired from the military in December 1960 with the rank of Major.

His first marriage resulted in two known daughters and one son; Janet Mayfield, Judith Beran and Allen E. Garcia. Herman's second marriage was to Shirley Kay Confer, daughter of Marion and Bertha (Sikes) Confer.

Herman's obituary appeared in the April 25, 2003 edition of the Baxter News and in the May 2, 2003 edition of the Baxter Springs Citizen, both in Baxter Springs, Cherokee County, Kansas. He is buried in Lowell Cemetery, in Lowell, Cherokee County, Kansas.

James Elbert Fagg, son of Thomas Randolph and Eliza Elizabeth (Bryant) Fagg, although reportedly born in Colby, Thomas County, Kansas in 1874, he does not appear on the 1880 Federal Census in that county. He does, however, appear in Jackson, Anderson County, Kansas federal census that year (page 157A). That census shows James was born in Kansas and that his parents were born in Indiana.

He married Mollie Louise Kelly, second child born to Joseph Patrick and Eliza Jane (Bishop) Kelly, Jr. He appears with her on the 1900 Federal Census in Oswego, Labette County, Kansas (Enumeration District 120, page 20 A), as a 25 year-old farm laborer born in Kansas. That census shows he rented his residence and "unknown" for his parents birth states.

He appears on the 1910 Federal Census in Baxter Springs, Cherokee County, Kansas (enumeration district 13, ward 3, page 19A). That census shows 35 year-old James Elbert was born in Kansas and that he was a miner. He reported that he didn't know in what state his parents were born.

James appears on the 1920 Federal Census in Baxter Springs, Cherokee County, Kansas, living at 1744 Military. He reported that he was 45 years old and was born in Kansas. That census also shows that his parents were born in Iowa and that he worked in the lead and zinc mines.

He also appears on the 1930 Federal Census in Baxter Springs, Cherokee County, Kansas, living on Military Avenue. That census shows that fifty-five year-old James was a mill man in the mines, born in Kansas and that his parents were born in Indiana.

James Elbert Fagg was employed by the city street and water department.

His obituary appeared in the October 8, 1953 edition of The Modern Light in Baxter Springs, Kansas. He is buried in the Baxter Springs Cemetery, Baxter Springs, Cherokee County, Kansas.

     Minna E. Fagg (aka "Minnie" and "Mid"), the first child born to James Elbert and Mollie Louise (Kelly) Fagg, was married four times; Arthur Frazier, James Tappana, Lester Frey, John Bettinger. Only her first union, to Arthur Frazier, resulted in a child, Rhea Maxine Frazier. Arthur Frazier was a rheumatoid arthritic. Minna also raised her first cousin, Allen Neal Kelly, son of Harry Floyd and Sadie Virginia (Hardin) Joseph Kelly, upon their deaths 1936. Minna lived with her son-in-law, Edward "Ted" Burke for awhile, moving in with him in December 1984. When Ted moved to Joplin, Missouri, Minna moved in with her granddaughter, Patty Guggino. She was one year old at the time the census was taken, showing that she was born in June 1898. Her birth location on the census is unreadable.

She appears on the 1910 Federal Census in Baxter Springs, Cherokee County, Kansas (enumeration district 13, ward 3, page 19A), living with her parents. That census shows 11 year-old Minnie was born in Oklahoma.

Her first marriage was to Arthur Frazier. That union resulted in a daughter, Rhea Maxine Frazier.

Minna's second marriage was to James Tappana, son of Walter and Lena Tappana. They appear together on the 1930 Federal Census in Baxter Springs, Cherokee County, Kansas living on East Avenue. That census shows Minna as Minnie E. Tappana, 31 years-old, and that she and her mother were born in Oklahoma and her father was born in Kansas.

She later married Lester Frey, then John Bettinger. Minna also raised her first cousin, Allen Neal Kelly, son of Harry Floyd and Sadie Virginia (Hardin) Joseph Kelly, upon their deaths 1936.

Minna lived with her son-in-law, Edward "Ted" Burke for awhile, moving in with him in December 1984. When Ted moved to Joplin, Missouri, Minna moved in with her granddaughter, Patty Guggino. She was last known to be living in a nursing home in Belen, NM in 2003.

That census shows she was a school teacher. She worked in the personnel office of Marshall Field and Company, the largest department store in Illinois at the time, both in Chicago and Evanston, Illinois, before moving to Albuquerque, New Mexico. She retired from Sandia National Laboratories in 1963 after nearly 23 years. Albert Milton Fellows birth and death information was obtained from the on-line Social Security Death Index. She married Albert Milton Fellows, Jr., son of Senator Albert Milton and Elsie (Smith) Fellows, Sr.

Cleo Fagg, youngest of three daughters born to James Elbert and Mollie Louise (Kelly) Fagg, died when she was a little more than a month old in 1906. She is buried in the Baxter Springs Cemetery, Baxter Springs, Cherokee County, Kansas.

The only Arthur Frazier of the right age in Cherokee County, Kansas in 1910 is Arthur M. Frazier, age 19, born in Kansas. He appears on the 1910 Federal Census in Galena Township, Cherokee County, Kansas (enumeration district 14, supervisors district 3, 2-WD GALENA, page 93B) as a 19 year-old machinist in the mines. That census shows Arthur M. Frazier was living with his 17 year-old brother, Grant W. Frazier, in his grandmother's, Elizabeth S. Roy (born in Indiana) household in Lowell, Cherokee County, Kansas. That census shows that Arthur and his parents were born in Kansas.

He married Minna E. Fagg, daughter of James Elbert and Mollie Louise (Kelly) Fagg.

Arthur and Minna Frazier appear on the 1920 Federal Census in Baxter Springs, Cherokee County, Kansas, with their daughter, Rhea Maxine Frazier. Arthur was 28 at the time the census was taken, and states he was born in Kansas. That census also shows his parents were both born in Missouri and that he was a carpenter by trade.

Arthur Frazier was a rheumatoid arthritic.

     The only child of Arthur and Minna E. (Fagg) Frazier, Rhea Mazine Frazier, had been voted best all-around girl by the Joplin branch of the American Association of University Women while she was attending high school. She was an accomplished pianist and choir director until arthritis crippled her hands. She was very active and held many offices in the Catholic Daughters of America. Rhea was also an outstanding Duplicate Bridge player and was a "Life Master" of the American Contract Bridge League.

Rhea married Edward "Ted" Burke, who was educated at the University of Kansas and served as a lieutenant in the United States Navy during World War II. He was a 4th degree Knight of Columbus and opened Burke's Prescription Center in 1950 at Medical Arts Square in Albuquerque, NM. Edward "Ted" and Rhea Burke adopted two children; Rhea's cousin, Victor Dale Kelly, whose parents died in 1936, and Patricia Ann Burke .

Rhea died in Albuquerque, NM in 1984. Her obituary appeared in the October 25, 1984 edition of The Baxter Springs Citizen. She is buried in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Edward "Ted" Burke is buried at Gate of Heaven Mausoleum in Albuquerque, New Mexico. [From Eric Andersen][Kelly History.FTW]

Rhea Maxine Frazier, the only child of Arthur and Minna E. (Fagg) Frazier, appears on the 1930 Federal Census in Baxter Springs, Cherokee County, Kansas living on East Avenue with her mother and step-father. That census shows thirteen year old Rhea was born in Kansas.

Rhea had been voted best all-around girl by the Joplin branch of the American Association of University Women while she was attending high school.
